Hello, my name is Shannon, as you can see in the "Name Field". I am yet another one of the students from Mrs. Bloyds 7th grade class here at Illini Bluffs Middle School, I am a person who enjoys to read very much, so when Mrs. Bloyd introduced our class to "The House Of The Scorpian" I was thirlled to begin a new novel. From the 1st chapter I was completely enthralled with the story, I couldn't put the book down, I had actually finished the book several weeks before it was due. I would like to thank you so much for writing this book, I also like to write, although I know I'm still a beginner at this, I have 2 stories I'm working on currently and I have so much fun writing just about anything, and I hope that my stories may be as creative and enticing as your stories. Dear Mrs. Nancy,
last night I finished your book, "The House of the Scorpion" for, at least, the 14th time. After reading it again I thought it was time I thanked you for such a wonderful book. I remember, I was probably 12 or 13 when I first bought it. I got it out of one of those Scholastic Books catalogs we get in grade school.
I read that short outline next to the picture and thought, "Ooo this sounds pretty good." I have to say, that was quite an understatement! Ever since I first read this book I have read it at least twice a year. I even took it on a trip to Mexico in case I got bored. Turns out it didn't help much seeing as I found myself with lots of free time & finished it within 3 days. Even after so many times, this book doesn't lose its' excitement. Even though I know every single detail I find myself reacting as if it were the first time I was reading it. I admit it, I teared up at some parts the first time, and I still do. I felt embarrassed for Matt when he demands a birthday kiss, and I still do. It's just- SUCH a good book! That's all I can say and I can only hope you understand how much meaning there is behind it. And I honestly would like to give you a "This book changed my life" kind of story, but honestly, I don't know if it has. I mean after 14 times I'm SURE it has, even if only in small ways, but God knows I probably haven't noticed. But I CAN say that I am ever so glad that my young tween self picked out this book. This now 20-year old college girl is amazingly happy and proud to have this book on her shelf. It will definitely stay in my Top 5 forever. There is so much more I want to say here, but perhaps another time. :) Thank you so much for your hard work and amazing talent.

I attend Illini Bluffs Middle School.I really enjoyed reading "The House of the Scorpion." My favorite character in your book was Ton-Ton! Ton-ton was a hero to me. He wasn't the smartest but he knew what he was doing and wanted to help Matt and Chacho. Toward the end of the book he became a hero by saving Matt and Chacho out of the whale bones with a claw and had them go in the shrimp harvester. That really made me think a little bit because I didnt think that he would do something like that. It gives kids like me hope that anything is possible!

Hey, I really liked house of the scorpion. The sequel to it is the only book I've ever looked forward to. You got alot of medals on your book too, they look nice.

Dear Ms Farmer, My children have grown up with me reading your stories aloud; some many times. Now that I have returned to the classroom, we read house of scorpion as the last novel of the year in 8th grade. This years class has been totally involved; every teachers dream. JR in the 2nd chapter attacked the book, punching it and saying "I need to jump in a pound him." THey have tried to finish other work faster as to read another chapter. I would love to send you the version that Lorenzo just wrote "using" his spellling words this week. You have a gift of reaching these students in a profound way. Thank you. We have had amazing discusions about cloning and laborers. These are topics of their day, and for 8th graders to start thinking about them is important as well as the decisions they will make and how will they grow. We quote Tam Lin a lot just now. Crot is part of their new vocabulary. I read Eye, Ear, Arm aloud in 6&7th. Many have read the Sea trolls for book reports. A Fan Sandra

Hello, my name, as listed in name field, is Thomas. I have read the entire sea of Trolls Series, and i have read House of scopion long ago. I really enjoyed your writing style. i myself hope to one day be a great respected author such as yourself. I have scanned your writing tips and i think i will try some of them. Yes, i do know that my grammer is not up to crack, but i am working on that. Like my friend Victor Hinz, i wish you would write a sequal to Islands of the blessed, but my reasonings are a bit obscure. I do enjoy your writing style, but the real reasons i would like a sequal include that it is an obscure part of religion. Most people do not write about Norse religion in their books, Or at least i haven't noticed a whole lot of them. Another reason is that i kinda felt like you left it hanging. There are a bunch of questions i think would be best answered in a new book. I do hope your eyes heal up to snuff. And i hope that sales for Islands of the Blessed go up. I understand what you said about how writing takes time, and i do hope you know, you are one of the better authors i have read. Most are too caught up in the details, and your book seems more caught up in the flow of the story. Your underlying themes though, they really make you think. I really enjoyed all four of your books i have read, adn i think i started The eye, the arm, and the ear. But i do not remember for sure. Thanks for reading the random ramblings of a teen.

Dear Mrs. Farmer;
The class read The House of the Scorpion and quickly became interested because of the surprise opening; however,they were extremely disappointed with the ending. Now, I realize you may have been planning on a sequel, but they wanted some type of "wrap up" or "turn of events" as a payoff for having read that looooonnnnng, 380 page book.

They were very happy to hear that there will be a sequel, but honestly, I do not believe many of them will purchase it when it comes out.I am typing this for them but they hope you will see this as constructive criticism.

I've always loved your books from the age of twelve and even now at 19. I've been reading about how your working on the House of the Scorpion sequel ( which I am super excited about). But I read about the Hollywood deals you have been getting for your books and well- I would just like to tell you about how Hollywood tends to ruin my favorite things.

This is simply out of concern, because Hollywood has recently made a film out of a children's show I used to watch. This show called "Avatar the last air bender" featured Asian culture and all the characters were Asian, and what ended up happening was that all the characters were cast as Caucasian. When fans got angry about this the studio switched all the villains for south Asian actors.

Your books were pretty much the only books I had read that showed kids from all the different corners of the world I found it wonderful and as a young Indo-Canadian it was eye opening. Your books made me feel a lot less like an outsider. As a kid, many of my schoolmates would bother me about my background and I never felt like I could be understood as an equal by them. Your books made me realize that some one who looked like me could also be a hero. For a child that is a world of a difference.
Thank you for being there during my childhood and teen years, you helped a lot.

I would hate to see characters that inspired me, and characters that I have fallen in love with suffer the same fate as the characters of "Last air bender"

Hello! I just wanted to say that I loved "House of the Scorpion"! I can't wait until the sequel comes out, but I'm wondering why it took so long, as the original book came out in 2002. But that is probably because you're busy and had an eye surgery. But I was wondering what would happen to Matt. Didn't the book leave off just when he was at the paradise, thinking about how he would break down the Empire of Opium? I'm anticipating!

First, I wanted to ask how are you doing since your eye operation? i will add you to my prayer list.

Next, the three awards on the cover of The House of Scorpion caught my attention as I was browsing in Barnes & Noble bookstore. I picked it up Friday and finished it on Sunday. i then passed it on to one of my students who enthralled by the cover. I cannot wait to hear her reaction.

By the way, it's funny how I remember seeing your book Ear....., many years ago, but I never picked it up. ( I must admit it was the cover.) However, now that I have The House....I enjoy your style and want to see if that smooth, natural, flow is evident in your other novels.

Lastly, I am delighted to learn that you are writing a sequel to The House....I look forward to seeing what Matt will do with his new power. P.S. I think it would make an outstanding movie. Speilberg would probably do it the best or even the man who did Avatar. That movie was ahead of its time and, I think it's James Cameron, had the idea years ago and it just came to fruition. Technology issues.

Reading your Sea of Trolls note about Norse ledgens might trace back to memories of Neanderthols, coupled with my doubts about the common theroy of how black people became white people since we know dark genes dominate- Darwin not withstanding, still I have a kink with the theory(after all the scientists told us that dinosaurs were slow cold bloode reptiles, to say nothing of how they ripped the first people who opened their eyes to recognize moderen birds as their decendents)I had an eppiphiny...Neanderthols were blond and blue eyed.I could go on, but running out of space.Its only convention and lack of imagination that portrays then as dark. think Yetti.

I agree with Sarah and the rest of the people who said you need to write a fourth Sea of Trolls book. I really enjoyed reading the first three ones and I was very upset when I learned that The Islands of the Blessed was the last book. My friends and I loved the books so much, that we wrote our own sequel. It's about 300 pages long, and we each wrote about 10 chapters. It's not as good as your books though. My friend Abby was reading The Land of Silver Apples and she noticed you name on the cover was spelled like

Second, I teach students with learning disabilities, many who are dyslexic. They loved reading House of the Scorpion. They actually finished it! And they can't wait for the sequel. House of the scorpions is my favorite book of all time. And I have been waiting for the sequel since it first came out. I'm nearly 16 now and I still love this book. I've probably reAd this book 50 times. And I'm glad there's going to be a sequel

I loved this book, it is definitely in my Top 5 favorite books, no question. We read it in Literature Circles in 7th grade. Although I'm not sure about this idea of a second book, we'll see. I love your work and it is an inspiration to read books like The House of the Scorpion <3

Hooray I just finished with the, dare I say, intriguing and fantastic novel, House of the Scorpion. Overall, it was a very great book and I am glad to know another episode about it is soon to come!

I want to start off by saying that the House of The Scorpion is my favorite book. I have read it three times a year in the last four years, yet the book still doesn't bore me. Hi,Mrs. Farmer, I'm from San Diego and I'm in the 8th grade. One of the standards at my school for the 8th Grade at Pershing Middle School is to read The House of the Scorpion, and I have to say that it's awesome. Would you consider publishing the sequel sometime before the end of 2012? I want to know what happens to Opium and what happens to the characters. Would it also be possible to include a nation of exiled Americans somewhere in the northern lands (i.e. Greenland)? It would be pretty cool.

I can't wait for the sequel i love your style of writing when do you think the book will come out cuz i can't wait!!!!!!
